Inflation & Purchasing Power Calculator

Does my money buy what it used to?

The same number on a price tag can mean something different over time. Use official consumer prices to understand the change.

Your starting point

Changes the unit label only. No exchange rates or currency conversion.

The defaults are fictional learning examples, not current rates or financial recommendations.

Calculating…

What this means

Translate prices across time

Choose two supported months and an amount. The tool multiplies your amount by the ratio of the two CPI readings to estimate what would buy a similar average basket in the second month. Reverse the dates to express a later price in earlier money.

Cash can lose purchasing power

If prices rise, an unchanged cash balance buys less. The purchasing-power result expresses the original amount’s value in the starting month’s money. A falling price index reverses that relationship.

An average basket is not your budget

CPI-U represents U.S. urban consumers across all items. Your rent, food, or healthcare may move differently. Currency selection changes the display unit only; selecting KRW does not switch to Korean inflation or apply an exchange rate.

Good questions

Are the dates annual averages?

No. These are monthly readings, not seasonally adjusted. Supported dates run from January 2020 through December 2024.

Can this calculate Korean inflation or future prices?

Those functions are unsupported. The MVP includes a verified U.S. historical CPI snapshot only, without forecasts.
